Full Steam ahead for family fun
17th Apr 2008

Celebrations for the Tweed’s No. 1 tourist destination have been a little derailed lately.
But things have been quick to get back on track for Duranbah’s Tropical Fruit World thanks to a miniature replica of the last NSW shunting train built.
When the steam finally ran out the train that transported visitors around the Adventure Island rainforest since 1991, the local Tweed Valley Miniature Train Club stepped in.
The old train had clocked up more than 100,000km and carried more than two million visitors in the past 17 years.
However, a 25-seat train built to run on the seven-and-a-quarter-inch gauge track was commissioned in time for Tropical Fruit World’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
For the past seven years Tropical Fruit World has been Tweed’s most popular Asian tourist destination.
An estimated five million people have visited its 95ha of gardens and fruit orchards which produce more than 530 varieties of exotic fruit.
The celebrations run until Anzac Day.
